Winnipeg Police CrestWinnipeg police deployed a spike belt to stop a stolen vehicle that was driving erratically early Tuesday morning.

Officers spotted the red 2012 Ford pickup truck at around 4:40 a.m. in the area of Portage Avenue and Ferry Road.

Police aborted their brief pursuit due to safety concerns, but officers picked up the vehicle once again in the East/North Kildonan areas of the city a short time later.

A spike belt was used in the 4000 block of Henderson Highway just after 5 a.m. to eventually stop the vehicle.

A 50-year-old man was arrested and faces numerous charges.

Police continue to investigate.
