A festival to celebrate and promote contemporary architecture, design, planning, and art in the city is about to get underway.
The Winnipeg Design Festival — titled LAUNCH — runs September 18-22 and will bring together artists, architects, presenters and others with a passion for creating flourishing design.
A series of public events at venues across the city will include 10x20x20 — a public forum featuring 10 presenters who will talk about design with only 20 slides lasting 20 seconds each.
Other highlights will be Parking Day, where architects and creators and public take over parking stalls in their city to educate public on how public spaces can be re-imagined and taken over.
Joinery, a large collaborative art installation made up with help from the public, will lead the festival into the weekend on Friday at Portage Place beginning at noon.
