A man from Kleefeld, Manitoba is facing charges after leaving the scene of an accident and then hiding from police.
The two-vehicle crash happened Friday afternoon at the intersection of PR 216 and College Avenue in Kleefeld, when a 1998 Dodge Ram pickup truck collided with a Pontiac Trans Sport van.
RCMP say the driver of the Dodge Ram fled the scene without making contact with the occupants in the minivan. Police tracked down the man in Kleefeld a short time later and discovered he had left his three-year-old child outside his home, who was in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Police tried to arrest the man, but he resisted the officer. Breathalyzer tests later showed he was more than two times the legal limit.
The man — who police haven’t identified — has been charged with dangerous driving causing bodily harm, impaired driving causing bodily harm, leaving the scene of an accident, child abandonment and resisting arrest.
Police say injuries sustained in the accident are non-life threatening.
