Live horse racing at Assiniboia Downs will come to an end on Sunday to close the book another season.

The 60-day racing season will conclude with the longest race of the year and a $50,000 race for two-year-old horses that features a Manitoba-bred that is a star in the making.

Horses will pass by the grandstand three times in a 1 3/4 mile sprint, building up the excitement level for race fans.

CEO Darren Dunn says fans will also receive 2,500 player rewards points for supporting the Downs as it seeks legal relief from government wrangling to interfere with its operations. The points — which translate to $12.50 — can be used to purchase anything from programs to food.

Sunday’s race will get underway at 1:30 p.m. If you can’t wait until then, the second-last race of the season begins at 7 p.m. tonight.

Following the season, the Downs will continue to operate its VLT tournaments, Saturday racing seminars, Texas hold ’em poker, and popular buffets.
