September 24, 2013 7:06 AM | News

RCMP Crest LogoRCMP are warning senior citizens about recent thefts in the areas of Russell, Foxwarren and the RM of Silver Creek.

Police have received eight reports of stolen purses since last Friday. The thefts usually occur when a young woman shows up at the doorstep of a home asking to use the washroom. When the elderly resident allows the woman inside, her purse is stolen. Two elderly women were pushed down by the suspect during the thefts and suffered minor injuries.

The victims are between the ages of 78- and 92-years-old.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Russell RCMP at (204) 773-3051 or Manitoba Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
