The seventh annual Winnipeg Zombie Walk will take on a different meaning this year.

Due to ballooning costs associated with the yearly pre-Halloween event, organizers have cancelled the “walk” portion.

The walk is usually only responsible for insurance and portable toilets, but organizers say increasing new costs for road closures, special event permits, damage deposits and other expenses have amassed to $16,000.

“Everybody is very disappointed but we’re shuffling on to make the best of it,” an e-mail said.

Therefore, the Winnipeg Zombie Walk on Saturday, October 12 will be made up of an official afterparty at The Zoo/Ozzy’s (160 Osborne Street). Admission is $10 to the 18+ event. Those who attend are asked to bring a non-perishable food item for Winnipeg Harvest
