It’s only September, but the thought of getting a grad dress is already on the mind of many, including the Gowns for Grads program.
The Winnipeg volunteer initiative is looking for graduation gown donations for the spring 2014 season. Dresses for young women can be dropped off until October 31, 2013 at any Perth’s location, Lola Boutique (11-2090 Corydon Avenue), Polar Bear Rubber (1663 Burrows Avenue) and Ashland School (170 Ashland Avenue).
More than 1,000 graduating girls have participated in the program over the past three years. The most popular sizes of gowns are under four and over 14.
For those interested in receiving a dress from the program, students can meet with their school counsellor for details on how to register. All participants must be registered in advance by their respective school.
“Graduates will be able to select the dress of their choice at the Winnipeg Convention Centre, April 29 thru May 1, 2014,” said Gowns for Grads coordinator Lorraine Penman. “The committee also welcomes donations of suitable evening bags, and shoes in addition to gowns.”
