Winnipeg’s New Flyer Industries has inked a deal with Calgary Transit to provide 150 Xcelsior 40-foot heavy-duty clean diesel powered transit buses.

The order builds on Calgary’s fleet of 945 heavy duty transit buses — the majority of which New Flyer has built.

Calgary Transit’s most recent New Flyer purchase of ten 60-foot diesel buses, made earlier in the year, was their first introduction to the Xcelsior next generation transit bus platform. New Flyer also recently delivered two 40-foot compressed natural gas (CNG) powered Xcelsior buses to Calgary Transit for testing and evaluation.

Production is expected to begin later this year with delivery set for 2014.
