‘Bag Up’ Recycling Program Launching on Monday

Take Pride WinnipegA program to encourage city youth to recycle plastic bags to turn them into other useful items will launch on Monday.

Take Pride Winnipeg! and Multi-Material Stewardship Manitoba are kicking off MMSM Bag Up Manitoba.

The program will run throughout the month of October, where elementary school students will collect plastic bags for recycling into birdhouses for their schools.

The successful program has been running in Winnipeg-area schools since 2008 and expanded to include other schools in southern Manitoba in 2010. Last year, more than one million bags were collected from 160 elementary schools across the province.
