September 30, 2013 7:00 AM | News

RCMP Crest LogoRCMP spent most of Sunday at the scene of a two-vehicle crash involving a pickup truck and semi-trailer truck near Portage la Prairie.

The crash happened shortly before 4:30 a.m. when the pickup was struck by the semi while crossing Highway 1 from southbound Angle Road.

The semi was hauling hazardous materials and overturned as a result of the impact, forcing the highway around the scene to be closed for several hours. The roadway eventually reopened at around 1:30 p.m. and no leak was reported from the semi.

The 51-year-old semi driver and his male passenger, both of Calgary, Alberta, were transported to Portage hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The 80-year-old Portage la Prairie man driving the pickup was also treated for non-life threatening injuries.
