A clean-up effort of the Assiniboine River is underway today, as officials with The Forks pull in all sorts of foreign items from the waterway.

Everything from shopping carts, couches, mattresses and junk turn up along the banks of the river each year.

“The rivers in Winnipeg are a huge amenity, one which we utilize both in the summer and the winter and it is important to The Forks that we help keep the Assiniboine River clean,” says Paul Jordan, chief operating officer of The Forks. “It’s unfortunate that people still use our rivers as their personal garbage dump.”

The clean-up from Osborne Avenue to The Forks will have the help of the Splash Dash Water Bus towing a large dock.

The boat will return to the Historic Port at 11:30 a.m. with its haul.
