The St. Norbert Farmers’ Market has started work on the first phase of a redevelopment project to improve its outdoor site.

Canopies began coming down on Wednesday, but the market is still open for business.

Work includes new pathways, walkways and entrances, which are partially completed, and improved drainage through the whole site.

While work progresses, the market will remain open on Saturdays, with vendors moving to the parking lot and the heritage site at the south side of the market.

All three levels of government, as well as the Winnipeg Foundation, are contributing funding to the market’s 10-year development plan, which includes better washroom facilities and more permanent structures on the site.
