Mothers to Breastfeed En Masse at Legislature

October 4, 2013 12:30 PM | News

BreastfeedingMothers and their babies will gather at the Manitoba legislature on Saturday to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week.

The week of promoting the benefits of breastfeeding and breast milk will wind down with a breastfeeding challenge. Thousands of moms at more than 100 different sites across the world will breastfeed at the same local time trying to have the highest number of children breastfeeding in one location. Canada won the challenge last year.

“Breastfeeding has great benefits to both mom and baby. It promotes infant health and strengthens the bond between mom and baby,” said Marusia Kachkowski, Winnipeg Breastfeeding Support Network chair. “The challenge is a fun event that not only raises awareness of the importance of breastfeeding but also helps build a strong community among new mothers.”

Women will congregate in the Rotunda at the legislature at 9:30 a.m. The “latch-on” portion of the day will occur at 11 a.m
