The Manitoba Bisons are clashing with the top basketball teams in eastern Canada this weekend in the 2013 Boys and Girls Club of Winnipeg Invitational Tournament.

For the first time since the 2006-07 season, the U of M will host the pre-season tournament, welcoming the top-ranked Western Mustangs and Windsor Lancers to campus on Friday and Saturday.

While not meeting in a match on the court, the Bisons will also host the rival University of Winnipeg Wesmen, who will play Western and Windsor in a pair of games.

Besides varsity action, 12 youth teams will compete at St. Paul’s High School in a separate leg of the tournament.

“We are very excited to further build our connections with the community and help to expose these kids to a great sporting event and the experiences of a higher education at the same time,” said Bison men’s basketball head coach Kirby Schepp. “We share the values of the Boys and Girls and Club in their tremendous work with developing and providing opportunities for the youth in our community.

The Bisons will play Western on Friday at 8 p.m. and then battle Windsor on Saturday, October 12 at 8 p.m. All games are at Investors Group Athletic Centre. Tickets are available at the door for $10 (adults) and $5 (students/seniors).
