A parkade on James Avenue is being pushed by CentreVenture Development Corporation, who will ask the city to conduct a second expression of interest (EOI) on the project.
The EOI request will come on Wednesday, October 16 for the design, construction and financing of the multi-level parking structure in the city’s downtown.
“A parkade at James Avenue would be of great benefit to people who live in the area and to those who attend the many shows and concerts happening in close proximity,” said Ross McGowan, president and CEO of CentreVenure. “This location is currently a surface parking lot. There’s no doubt a parkade would make much better use of the space available.”
CentreVenue says the parkade would be east of the Centennial Concert Hall, which is within the hub of nearby entertainment venues, such as numerous theatre.
The city would allocate up to $5 million from the sale of the Winnipeg Square Parkade to put towards the project.
