Mini Davis’ “Untitled,” chalk pastel on paper, detail of 24″ x 24″ (HANDOUT)
A new exhibit from renowned artist Mini Davis is opening in the coming days.
Inside the Lines furthers Davis’ theme of rebellion, while his style and methods are characterized by conventional materials and unconventional techniques.
The exhibit opens on Tuesday, October 15 at Gurevich Fine Art’s McNally Robinson gallery at Grant Park Shopping Centre.
“This may fall into the context of applying irony and duality in whatever it may be I’m trying to say,” Davis said.
Each piece is weighted with nonconformist meaning but the true expression comes from Davis’ supersaturated use of chalk pastel and choice of a solid outline. Together these elements flatten his pieces lending themselves to the bold and complex graphic style of Picasso’s Guernica.
Davis will be on hand for the public opening, which begins at 7:30 p.m.
