The chief of Buffalo Point First Nation has been charged with extortion after communicating with a federal government official.
RCMP began investigating in July after a complaint against Chief John Thunder was made. Police say Thunder was communicating with the official with some level of involvement with the Buffalo Point Cottage Owners Association.
Thunder is alleged to have made an attempt to derail a civil legal proceeding between the Buffalo Point First Nation Development, the Buffalo Point First Nation and the Buffalo Point Cottage Owner’s Association.
The federal employee was not acting in an official capacity in relation to the investigation.
Thunder was arrested Tuesday and will appear in Winnipeg court on November 25.
