October 22, 2013 8:51 PM | News

SafewayFour Winnipeg Safeway locations are destined to be sold as a result of the recent sale of the company to Sobeys.

The Competition Bureau has cleared the way for 23 Canada Safeway stores across the country to be sold as part of the $5.8 billion deal.

UFCW Local 832 says about 300-350 members work at the four affected stores:

  • 1441 Main Street
  • 77 Vermillion Road
  • 1120 Grant Avenue
  • 850 Dakota Street

The Price Chopper at 677 Stafford Street will also be sold. The locations are expected to remain grocery stores, but under a different banner.

“What the union currently knows is that under the ruling, the purchase of these stores will include the rights and benefits negotiated in the collective agreement. The members at these four stores will be protected with their current collective agreement,” said UFCW Local 832 president Jeff Traeger.
