Big Weekend on Campus for Bison Sports

University of Manitoba BisonsIt’s a big weekend for the University of Manitoba Bisons, as football, hockey, volleyball and basketball teams are all in action.

Football

The Bisons head to Edmonton to take on the Alberta Golden Bears and search for the opportunity in hosting a playoff game in the post-season. Kickoff is 6 p.m. CT on Saturday and will be streamed live at CanadaWest.tv.

Hockey

The Bison men’s squad (2-4) host the Calgary Dinos in a two-game set at home tonight and Saturday. Puck drop is 7 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively, at Wayne Fleming Arena.

Volleyball

Both men’s and women’s teams are facing their local rivals tonight and Saturday. The Bisons and University of Winnipeg Wesmen began their Duckworth Challenge battle on Thursday and will continue this weekend. The Bisons host Winnipeg at 8:15 p.m. tonight for a men’s game, and the women host at 8:15 p.m. on Saturday. Both games are at Investors Group Athletic Centre.

Basketball

In non-conference play, the Bison women’s basketball team is hosting the 2013 Shoot for the Cure Invitational. Games start at 4 p.m. today when the Bisons face Regina, followed by a Lakehead-Winnipeg tilt at 6 p.m. Competition continues Saturday for “Pack the Place Pink Night” in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Lakehead vs. Regina (4 p.m.) and Winnipeg vs. Manitoba at 6 p.m. The invitational wraps up Sunday with a set of early games at 10 a.m. (Lakehead vs. Manitoba) and 12 p.m. (Regina vs. Winnipeg). Tickets at the door are $10 (adults) and $5 (students/seniors).
