Helene Campbell (HANDOUT)
The unofficial face of organ donation in Canada is travelling to Winnipeg next week to inform the community on the importance of donating an organ.
You may have seen Helene Campbell on the “Ellen DeGeneres Show.” The 21-year-old received a double lung transplant last year and has attracted some high-power endorsements for her outreach efforts, including from Justin Bieber. She’s even been a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of her work.
On Thursday, November 7, Campbell, along with Transplant Manitoba, will host the Give2Live Coffee Break Boot Camp in downtown Winnipeg. From 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Campbell and a professional fitness instructor will be keeping Winnipeggers active in the courtyard of 201 Portage Avenue.
The free class will feature exercises geared to help people get in shape for winter activities such as snow shovelling, cleaning off the car, skating, keeping warm while waiting for the bus, and other activities.
Besides the bootcamp, the event is a way to celebrate the work Campbell does to raise awareness about organ donation, and to encourage people to register their organ and tissue donation wishes on SignUpForLife.ca.
