The video of a man assaulting a Winnipeg Transit driver has resulted in a suspect finally being arrested.

Police released the video earlier this week in hopes someone would recognize the suspect in the attack, which occurred September 14 on William Avenue near Isabel Street.

The driver was beaten for several minutes before others intervened, resulting in two other men being assaulted. The bus driver was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police had previously released screen captures from the video in early October, but no one came forward to identify the attacker. A YouTube video uploaded by police on October 29 has now been viewed more than 40,000 times.

Early Thursday morning, officers were called to an unrelated matter in the 200 block of Selkirk Avenue. Dwight John Stevenson, 23, was taken into custody and arrested due to his alleged involvement regarding the assault to the transit driver.

He remains in police custody and faces several charges, includ aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose in relation to Thursday’s incident.
