It’s November 1. But for those with a knack for growing a moustache this month, Movember sounds more like it.
The annual fundraiser in support of men’s health issues officially launched Friday with a month-long campaign. Prostate cancer and male mental health initiatives will be the main recipients of campaigns, with a goal of $1 million set provincially.
The Manitoba branch of the Movember campaign had 7,700 registered participants last year, who raised $950,000. Organizers have raised the bar to get 10,000 men signed up this year to “grow a mo.”
A number of local celebrity participants were clean-shaven with a straight razor at Red River College’s Princess Street campus for the launch.
