Siloam Mission has received a donation of hundreds of blankets and winter coats to keep the city’s homeless warm this winter.
Local company Peerless Garments made the donation after its CEO, Abdo (Albert) El Tassi, was inspired by the recent CEO Sleepout fundraiser and pledged to donate 100 brand new sleeping bags.
El-Tassi and his son, Sam (Mohamed) El Tassi, owner of Sargent Blue Jean, made the additional donation to the homeless shelter this week.
“This donation couldn’t have come at a better time, as Winnipeg’s harsh winter takes a big toll on men and women experiencing homelessness. Some of these jackets and coats will be what stands between life and death for some of our guests in the coming months,” said Judy Richichi, Siloam Mission’s director of finance and development.
