Charges Laid After Store Allegedly Sells Gun to Minor

RCMP Crest LogoA Portage la Prairie store is under fire after allegedly selling a gun to an minor.

RCMP arrested three people from the business on Monday morning after charging a 16-year-old boy from Sandy Bay First Nation with firearms possession. The store owner and an employee were later charged with two counts of unauthorized transfer of a firearm and unauthorized transfer of ammunition.

The store was targeted after police discovered the youth purchased firearms from the store.

The legal age to purchase a firearm in Canada is 18 and a valid firearm licence is required.

The two arrested will appear in Portage court on January 13, 2014.
