Winnipeg Police CrestA 16-year-old girl luckily got away after a man allegedly attempting to kidnap her on Monday.

Winnipeg police say the incident happened at around 3 p.m. in the area of Main Street and Bannerman Avenue. The teen was walking when a red SUV honked at her to make contact. The victim ignored the man’s efforts and continued on southbound Main Street.

The SUV then stopped abruptly in her path near Main Street and St. John’s Avenue, at which time the driver got out and grabbed the teen by the arm trying to get her into the vehicle. The victim was able to break free and call police, but not before the man threw a plastic bottle at her.

Police pulled the vehicle over roughly 45 minutes later near Salter Street and Magnus Avenue.

Julian Littlechief, 27, of Saskatchewan has been charged with attempted kidnapping and assault with a weapon.

He remains in custody.
