The Carpathia Boys and Girls Club will be awarded a $40,000 grant from the RBC Foundation at the club’s site on Wednesday.
The grant funding will help deliver a free daily after-school program for children ages 8 to 12. Programming includes homework and literacy activities, organized sports, arts, science, and junior leaders. They also offer a healthy meal/snack to ensure kids have the energy they need to take full advantage of programs and activities each day.
The Winnipeg program is one of 106 across Canada to receive a portion of $2.8 million in corporate funding in 2013-2014 school year.
“Through this partnership, RBC has made it possible for us to provide critical after-school opportunities for children and youth in the area,” said Ron Brown, president and CEO, Boys and Girls Clubs of Winnipeg. “This investment ensures we can engage them in fun developmental activities while equipping them with tools they need to reach their full potential.”
Two RBC Olympians will be on hand at Carpathia School tomorrow to share their stories and experiences, speak about active living, and lead the youth in a fun physical activity.
