She doesn’t have a name yet, but the 11-month-old female polar bear cub from Churchill is feeling quite at home at the Assiniboine Park Zoo.
Housed inside the spacious International Polar Bear Conservation Centre (IPBCC), the orphaned bear arrived in Winnipeg Tuesday night after being found abandoned in the northern Manitoba community.
“The bear is adjusting well to her new surroundings at the IPBCC,” said Dr. Brian Joseph. “She’s a young cub and in good health so we anticipate that she’ll make a smooth transition as she adapts to life at the Assiniboine Park Zoo.”
The new cub joins two-year-old Hudson, three-year-old Storm, and Aurora — a fellow 11-month-old cub from Churchill — as the fourth polar bear to make her temporary home at the IPBCC until they move into the Journey to Churchill exhibit this summer.
The bear is currently under a 30-day quarantine period before being introduced to the public.
