Siloam Mission’s kitchen will be transformed into cookie baking central this weekend in the spirit of the holidays.

The annual Christmas Cookie Baking Extravaganza includes more than 80 participants — children and their parents — who help Siloam’s volunteers to bake and decorate seasonal cookies.

“This has grown to become a popular way for families to involve young children in volunteerism and build a greater sense of community within Winnipeg’s inner city,” said Lindsay Smith, Siloam Mission’s director of volunteer services.

Families start off with a tour of the homeless shelter and then work in groups to bake and decorate the cookies, which will be distributed to the shelter’s patrons.

Baking will occur today and Sunday from 2:30-4:30 p.m. at 300 Princess Street.
