RCMP Crest LogoA retired member of the RCMP has been charged following alleged sexual assaults dating back 37 years.

A 76-year-old man was arrested in Nova Scotia on Tuesday and brought back to Manitoba to face charges.

RCMP say in 2006, a female came forward alleging sexual assaults over a six-year period between 1976 and 1981 when she was between nine and 14-years-old. Police didn’t say why they waited seven years to lay charges in the case.

The accused was posted in Manitoba at the time and retired from the RCMP more than 20 years ago.

He has been charged with two counts of gross indecency and two counts of indecent assault.
