A pop-up restaurant that sat at the junction of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers near The Forks last winter will rise again.

Raw: Almond is the creative idea of restaurateur Mandel Hitzer (deer + almond) and architect Joe Kalturnyk. The popular temporary restaurant was sold out every night last year during its short run and will deliver the unique experience to diners for a second year from January 24 to February 13, 2014.

A group of Winnipeg chefs are on board to handle the dining room for two consecutive nights each, and will present five soul-warming courses with beer/wine/spirits pairing to three seatings of 30 diners. Guests can also relax at the chef-guided tasting bar with three special snacks and an alcoholic beverage.

Participating chefs include Scott Bagshaw (Deseo Bistro), Adam Donnelly (Segovia), Aron Epp and Ben Kramer (Elements and Diversity Food Services), Tristan Foucault (Peasant Cookery), Eric Lee (Pizzeria Gusto) and Alex Svenne (Bistro 7 1/4) will reunite with Hitzer on the ice. They will be joined in the city’s coolest kitchen by newcomers Jesse Friesen (Lobby on York), Luc Jean (Jane’s), Edward Lam (Yujiro) and Calgarian Jason Barton-Browne (Teatro).

Tickets are $100 for dinner, $45 for the tasting lounge and $20 for a walk-up brunch between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekends. Dinner ticket sales begin Tuesday, December 10 at deer + almond for RAW Gallery members only. Gallery memberships cost $25 and are available at deer + almond. Ticket sales open to the public Friday, December 20.
