Winnipeg Police CrestA 16-year-old boy is facing charges, including assaulting a police officer, after he allegedly stole a pickup truck Thursday night.

Winnipeg police received a report of a stolen black Chevrolet Silverado at around 10:15 p.m. from behind a home in the 500 block of Whittier Avenue.

The truck was located shortly after in the area of Kildare Avenue East and Widlake Street. Officers stopped the vehicle with the lone occupant inside, at which time he fled by reversing at a high rate of speed. Police say an officer was forced to run behind a cruiser to avoid being struck.
