Free legal advice for low income residents will be made available next month in Winnipeg’s North End.
The Legal Help Centre will run the monthly Legal Help Clinic at 485 Selkirk Avenue, housed inside the William Norrie Centre of the University of Manitoba.
Free legal information will be provided to community members with family incomes less than $50,000 a year beginning in January.
An official opening of the clinic will take place on Thursday at 1 p.m., featuring a tribute to Jerry Woods. Woods was the past chair of the Manitoba Human Rights Commission, and funding for the clinic has been provided through a gift in honour of his retirement.
The clinic will be run by a community board made up of members of the legal profession, the community and the university sector.
