Premier Greg Selinger has called byelections in two Manitoba ridings who have been without representation for nearly a year.

Byelections in the constituencies of Morris and Arthur-Virden are scheduled for Tuesday, January 28.

Former Morris MLA Mavis Taillieu resigned last February, while Larry Maguire of Arthur-Virden stepped down to seek a federal seat.

Nominations in the constituencies will officially close on January 13 and advance polls in both will be open from January 18 to 25. On voting day, polls will remain open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The opposition Tories had criticized the NDP for waiting this long without calling a byelection, saying the delay was the longest since 1992.
