Winnipeg Goldeyes LogoThe Winnipeg Goldeyes have signed infielder Ryan Pineda from the Sioux City Explorers in exchange for pitcher Kaohi Downing.

Pineda, 24, hit .288 in 95 American Association games split between the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and Grand Prairie AirHogs. He also hit six home runs and compiled 49 RBI. He saw action at second base, third base, shortstop and in left field.

“We got to see him a little bit during training camp last year when we were playing the RedHawks and I really liked the way he played against us,” Goldeyes manger Rick Forney said.

“He swung the bat really well. He has the potential to be a young impact bat and, in the right situation, be a 20 doubles and 10 home runs type of guy. He’s a guy that has a lot of value.”

The Goldeyes now have six players signed for the 2014 season, including three pitchers and three position players.
