The Winnipeg Jets have parted ways with head coach Claude Noel and assistant coach Perry Pearn.

The news on Sunday came after the Jets’ fifth-straight loss the night before to the Columbus Blue Jackets at MTS Centre.

Noel was hired in June 2011 ahead of the Atlanta Thrashers’ move to Winnipeg, and was the former head coach of the AHL’s Manitoba Moose.

The Jets sit at 19-23-5 this season in the Western Conference.

Paul Maurice has been hired as the second head coach in the team’s franchise history. The 46-year-old earned a career NHL coaching record of 460-457-167 in 14 seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes/Hartford Whalers and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
