A new endowment fund has been created by the Winnipeg Police Service to enable programs that assist at-risk and underserved children, youths and their families, to apply for funding.
The WPS Endowment Fund is being established through the Winnipeg Foundation, who will oversee the administration and management of the fund.
“This endowment fund gives the Winnipeg Police Service another way to reach out into the community and strengthen its relationship with citizens,” said Mayor Sam Katz. “The grants provided through this fund will make a real difference in the lives of at-risk youth and families, and ultimately benefit the entire city.”
Donations to the fund are now being accepted at wpgfdn.org/wpsfund. Donations will be invested as capital with the annual earnings used to subsidize initiatives within Winnipeg.
The first call for grant applications will begin in January 2015, with awards being presented that same spring.
