January 23, 2014 12:35 PM | News

City of WinnipegAn open house held by the City of Winnipeg tonight will look at improvements to the Brady Road Resource Management Facility.

The south end landfill is looking to make improvements that shift away from garbage collecting and focus on:

  • A new nine hectare pad (about the size of 11 football fields) to compost the yard waste from the seasonal curbside collection program
  • A new three hectare complex to compost about 20 percent of the community’s biosolids (nutrient-rich by-product of sewage treatment) in a pilot program scheduled to begin this summer
  • A new five hectare 4R Winnipeg depot, scheduled to open this fall, where residents can drop off materials that can be recycled, reused, composted, or resold

The open house runs from 5-8 p.m. at the St. Norbert Community Centre, 3450 Pembina Highway. Those unable to attend can provide feedback online, e-mail wwdfeedback@winnipeg.ca or send comments by mail to City of Winnipeg, Water and Waste Department, 1199 Pacific Ave, Winnipeg MB, R3E 3S8, Attention: Brady and 4R Depot Consultation.
