Nuzzles, designed by Raw Design Inc. from Toronto, is one of three warming hut winners for 2014. (HANDOUT)

Five new warming huts will begin taking shape at The Forks on Friday, part of an international competition featuring some of the best architectural teams.

The huts will grace the Red River Mutual Trail this year, with three winners from an international competition, two of the winning entries coming from Toronto and one from Vancouver, one hut from a separate University of Manitoba competition, and one from the local invited architect Étienne Gaboury.

The competition, announced last July, received 190 submissions from across the world.

Teams will hard at work on their masterpieces this week before they’re moved down to the river for the public to enjoy.
