A one-day symposium is exploring placemaking initiatives that bring the arts and cultural strengths of Winnipeg into the public realm.

The Urban Idea Exchange will host two keynote presentations to examine great ideas from around the world and how they can be applied to our own city.

The event, which is open to the public, is aimed at anyone with an interest in art, design, and cities.

Dr. Ann Markusen, director of the Arts Economy Initiative and the Project on Regional and Industrial Economics at the University of Minnesota, will speak along with Dan Maginn, principal of the Eldorado Studio in Kansas City, Missouri.

The symposium runs today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the West End Cultural Centre.
