Six-time Olympic medal winning speed skater Cindy Klassen will travel to Jordan this week to meet with Syrian refugees.
The Winnipeg-based athlete is making the trip with Canadian Lutheran World Relief and will distribute sweaters donated by Canadians and winter items like heaters, carpets and other warm clothing.
“I’m very much looking forward to meeting people who have been so resilient in the face of terrible danger and hardship,” Klassen said in a release. “I hope that I can offer some support and call attention to the need for help.”
Klassen participated in an “Empowering Women in Sports” symposium at the launch of a new sports facility in Bethlehem on Sunday.
