Bonnie Raitt to Headline Winnipeg Folk Festival

Multi-award winning musician Bonnie Raitt will headline this year’s Winnipeg Folk Festival.

Raitt was announced Saturday as one of many acts to perform at the 41st annual edition of the festival, set for July 9-13 in Birds Hill Provincial Park.

Also on the five-day schedule is Ben Harper, Charlie Musselwhite, and Joan Baez. Grammy-nominated female bluegrass group Della Mae, roots group The Wood Brothers and local vocal powerhouse Chic Gamine will also perform.

Opening for Raitt on Wednesday night will be local alt-country act The Bros. Landreth and Amy Helm & The Handsome Strangers. It’s the first time Raitt will play the festival since 1988.

“I am particularly excited to see a line-up that has a lot of performers who will be making their festival debut as well as others who have not played in many years,” said artistic director Chris Frayer. “This attention to past performers and new acts is what our audience has come to love and this year will be no exception.”

Early bird tickets are on sale until April 30. For the complete lineup and admission prices, visit WinnipegFolkFestival.ca.
