A new program to track the disposal of litter is being launched to get Manitoba students involved in the recycling process.
Take Pride Winnipeg! and Recycle Everywhere have teamed up for Easy as 1-2-3, where students are asked to pick up at least three pieces of litter daily for a chance to win prizes.
“This program is exactly what it is named — Easy as 1-2-3,” said Tom Ethans, executive director of Take Pride Winnipeg!. “And just think — if five thousand students picked up three pieces of litter each day of the program, it would mean 705,000 pieces of litter were picked up and properly disposed of. Every bit counts in making your community clean and beautiful.”
Students are asked to record and classify the litter, and then dispose of it properly by putting it in either a recycling bin or the garbage.
Classroom prizes will be awarded, and two students (one within Winnipeg, one outside Winnipeg) will have the opportunity to win airfare, hotel and tickets for a four-day stay at Walt Disney World.
