The federal government is spending $74,000 to improve accessibility at a Winnipeg church.
Elmwood-Transcona MP Lawrence Toet announced the funding Wednesday for Transcona Memorial United Church.
The project will allow people with disabilities in the area to more actively participate in their community. The proposed $49,000 project consists of constructing an exterior ramp to permit wheelchair access into the building, widening doorways, installing automated door openers, and increasing lighting contrast.
Toet also announced an additional $25,000 for a new entrance to the church, consisting of replacing the stairs to the building. The improved access will ensure seniors can continue to make use of the church’s meal and exercise programs.
