The University of Manitoba has reached a new collective agreement with Unifor, which represents 500 workers on campus.
The new three-year deal was ratified on Tuesday and includes a one percent pay increase, while certain occupations also receive a substantial adjustment to make the compensation more competitive. In the second and third years of the contract, all members of the union will receive at least a 1.5 per cent increase, while the trades receive two per cent in order to remain competitive.
Unifor (formerly CAW) represents all of the U of M’s food service workers, power engineers, caretaking, trades and general services staff.
The new agreement takes effect March 29 and lasts through March 22, 2017.
