The honours keep rolling in for the Jennifer Jones curling rink, and Thursday at the Manitoba Legislative Building, the foursome was inducted into the Order of the Buffalo Hunt.
Jones and her teammates, along with Paralympic gold medal curler Dennis Thiessen, received the province’s highest honour for their performance at the 2014 Sochi Olympics and Paralympics, respectively.
Jones was joined by Kaitlyn Lawes, Jill Officer, Dawn McEwen, and coach Janet Arnott for the packed ceremony. Alternate Kirsten Wall was unable to attend and will be honoured at a later date.
“We’re so proud to be from Manitoba. We tell everybody where we’re from and they think we’re tough because of it,” Jones said. “To be recognized with this special honour, that not very many people get, we’ll always treasure it and be remembered forever. That’s truly an accomplishment.”
The honour is bestowed by the province on individuals who demonstrate outstanding skills in the areas of leadership, service and community commitment.
