April 7, 2014 7:09 AM | News

Skin Cancer ScreeningManitoba MLAs are being screened for cancer today by the Canadian Dermatology Association.

Dermatologists are visiting the Manitoba legislature to provide the service and discuss the importance of early detection and prevention for all skin cancers. Participants will also learn how to conduct at-home self-exams.

In Manitoba, 175 new cases of melanoma skin cancer were expected in 2013. While more men than women are diagnosed in the province, Manitoba men are more likely to die from melanoma than women. This reflects the nation’s rising death rate from skin cancer among men.

Melanoma skin cancer is the seventh most common cancer in Canada.
