A lucky Winnipegger is the city’s newest millionaire.
John Perry picked up a Lotto Max ticket at the Mac’s convenience store in Osborne Village for the March 14 draw. Waiting three weeks to check if he had won, it came as a surprise when the automated checker displayed $1 million.
“When I heard it was a million dollar winner, I was feeling multiple emotions,” Perry said. “Happiness and relief. No more student loans, no more mortgage, no more car loan. And almost shock — I kept thinking, can this be real?”
Perry’s ticket had exactly matched all seven numbers of one of the 50 Maxmillions drawn. His Quick Pick ticket was the only one with that set of numbers, so it won the entire prize.
Perry says he will also use some of the winnings to plan a wedding.
