Ten new RCMP positions will be funded by the Manitoba government to grow the police force in the province.
Justice Minister Andrew Swan said the positions will increase resources for law enforcement, support community safety and help reduce crime.
“The number of officers continues to grow, providing a strong presence to prevent criminal activity before it happens and deterrence to provide peace of mind to residents,” Swan said. “RCMP officers are an important part of our communities and we will continue to make strategic investments to support their work and increase their presence across the province.”
The RCMP will decide on the new officers’ assignments and locations.
The province spends more than $126 million annually to fund 798 Mountie positions.
