Winnipeg residents are being reminded to be cautious around ice-covered bodies of water including rivers, streams, creeks, ponds and ditches.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service and Winnipeg Police Service issued the warning as temperatures rise and ice begins to melt on all open bodies of water.

The river trail at The Forks has been closed for a month, but some visitors to the area are still walking on it, despite warnings.

Last year, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service received 50 water and ice safety calls.
