Three Winnipeg Properties At-Risk for River Flooding

April 16, 2014 2:06 PM | News

City of WinnipegProlonged cold temperatures has stalled the spring melt, resulting in an increased risk of ice jams on the Red River and a threat to some Winnipeg properties.

Three homes will require sandbags this season, including two on Cloutier Crescent and one on Kingston Row.

“City crews will be contacting the residents of these properties shortly. It is estimated that about 2,300 sandbags will be required for these properties,” said Grant Mohr, the city’s flood planning engineer. “We continue to monitor river levels and will adjust our plans accordingly.”
Mohr said city staff have been activating flood pumping stations, checking flood control gates and setting up temporary pumps.
